| TCL Intl. expects TV output up 40% |

| BEIJING, March. 9 -- TCL International Holdings Ltd., the world's largest TV maker, expects television output to soar more than 40 percent this year after its venture with Thomson SA turned profitable at the end of last year, according to its company presentation.
TCL International, which vies with the likes of Sony and Samsung in global electronics sales, is targeting output of 24.44 million sets this year, compared with 17.17 million last year, according to the presentation. That projected increase is backed by soaring shipments to overseas markets and falls in line with last year’s gain in output of 47 percent. Outside China, it is seeking to increase its shipments by 65 percent to 13.6 million units. Some 4.5 million units are targeted for the emerging markets, mainly Southeast Asia, Russia and South Africa. TCL said it expected to be profitable in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2004 as operations in Europe and North America continued to show improvement. In the third quarter, the company posted a net loss of HK$59 million (US$7.56) as its bottom line was wieghed down by the joint venture formed with France’s Thomson SA. TCL launched its venture with RCA brand owner Thomson last summer when it pooled its core TV-making business with Thomson’s television assets. The Hong Kong-listed arm of TCL Corp., which lists shares in Shenzhen, owns 67 percent of the venture with Thomson, which is called TTE Corp.
